Adam Hills, I declare my love & admiration.
One of the best things I have seen on YouTube is his response to the Joan Rivers comments about Adele (extra points for getting that Seth Macfarlane reference in there too, he was a misogynistic TOOL).
Adele, who needs a separate room just to house her Grammy’s, Oscar & other Various prestigious awards gets ripped apart by Joan and all I could think was….Joan, you are better than that! You are smarter than that! WTF are you doing? By all means be funny, but don’t be mean, c’mon – how old are you? When I watch you make these comments, I kind of tune out because it is all so lame. LAME. I loved you in Celebrity Apprentice, I like Fashion Police when it is funny and most of all I appreciate your utter ballsiness. In this instance, it just made me pity you. In a time of celebrity for celebrity’s sake you attacked true talent and that is a sad day indeed.
Adam Hills impassioned & fiery response has been playing on my mind all day and I love his line about Adele being one of the few women in Pop Music that he wants his daughter to look up to. Adele is not a sexualised caricature of herself, she doesn’t deny her roots, nor does she try to be something she is not and if you want a down to earth star that is self deprecating & honest – look no further. Adele is REAL – and that is what I want people to look up to and respect. Once again I will bring you back to her talent because the worst thing about bullshit attacks like Joan & Seth’s is that it completely detracts from the hard work & success of an artist who reinvigorated UK/US CD sales in a dying industry. If you were responsible for giving the music business the breath of life, put your hand up………no surprise there, 1 lonely hand in the air belonging to the delightful & vocally blessed Adele Adkins. Why on earth would anyone want to diminish that?
There is no mystery to the escalated level of cyber & schoolyard bullying that we hear about every day in the news when wealthy & successful grown ups who quite frankly should know better dole out crap lines just to get a laugh. It is all connected – we all need to take ownership of the language we use and the driving intent behind that language. How can we possibly expect children & teenagers to curb their bullying when we as adults saturate them in vitriol that is classified as ‘ok’ because it is ‘funny’.
Oh – Seth & Joan, Adele gave birth to her son in October….neither of you made mention of that. To quote Adam Hills, “Stop being a dick”.
